STORY FROM NSWRL
France opened the scoring after six minutes by turning good field position into a well constructed try by their No 10. The conversion made the score 6-0.
In the 9th minute good momentum from the forwards allowed room for the backs to create some clever plays to put Jacob Gagan over in the corner.
Gagan went on to score the next two tries to complete his hat trick by the 19th minute, and to take Australia to a 14-6 lead.
France hit back in the 25th minute with a fine display of skill to score a converted try and reduce the deficit to 14-12.
However, a mistake by France allowed Australia to pounce on an overlap down the short side to see James Tedesco cross in the corner.
Paul Carter scored the last try of the first half in the 33rd minute when he handled twice in a movement after a Lachlan Burr break.
Carter’s try was converted by Harry Siejka to give Australia a half time lead of 26-12.
A French knock on from the kick off allowed Australia to attack, and they used well structured play to pressure the French defence.
Vaipuna Tia Kilifi ran an excellent line from a Jack Wighton pass to score under the posts.
Harry Siejka’s conversion made the score 32-12.
In the next eight minutes, a heavy tackle on Sam Irwin, which led to him being stretchered from the field, and a big hit by Jacob Gagan, heightened the physical intensity of the game.
A good try from France in the 52nd minute reduced the deficit to 32-18, however Australia hit back four minutes later with a Trent Jennings try following a Lachlan Burr break.
Harry Siejka again converted for a 38-18 lead. Three minutes later, three good runs in a row allowed Jack Wighton room to throw a big dummy and score for a 42-18 lead.
James Tedesco completed the scoring in the 69th minute after Paul Carter made a break. Australia capitalised on superior numbers to the left, and Tedesco scored in the corner. The final score of 46-18 completed their victory.
The six match tour finished with Australia being victors in four of their six matches, and the team will return to Australia acknowledging the quality of the opposition they have encountered, which is testimony to the development work being undertaken in England, Wales and France.

CHRISTOPHE TOUSTOU: "WE HAVE BEEN DEPRIVED OF BALLS Story By : FFE X111
Yesterday evening in Villeneuve sur Lot, in front of nearly 2000 spectators, XIII of France Under 18 years banked on the score of 56-12 against the Australian Schoolboys. A disappointment for blueberries, a few weeks ago, had won for the first time in their young history, the tournament of the Discovery Challenge. Christophe Toustou, the France coach, returns to the delivery of his.
Can you explain this international gathering in front of the Australian band?
We had a very difficult start to the match. We played without the ball and are very rarely come to make our chain. It took until the 24th minute to finally score some points through Damien Cardaci. This match was mostly a big physical challenge, we did not feel part of the same class as the templates of Australians were impressive. Schoolboys These are real athletes. In the second half, we were able gradually to develop our game and use our qualities. Unfortunately, the players have been inconsistent. We're exhausted to defend in order to control better the opponent. They had us wear.
DO YOU STILL SATISFACTIONS?
For now, we do not have enough perspective on this match to analyze correctly. Therefore, we kept the players this morning and will work together during the video session. What is certain is that we have a ways to go before being competitive with the big international teams. While we are disappointed, he should not call into question all the efforts of the staff and players. We must move forward and continue to prepare us, the season is not over for the team of France's Under-18.
A CAPE SEEMS NEVERTHELESS TO HAVE BEEN CROSSED?
Sure. We win for the first time the Discovery Challenge and come to the end of the Australian Institute of Sport. Do not forget the victories but we can not just look at this last game. The international season still has a game against the Academy who defeated twice this year Schoolboys. Herein lies the challenge that awaits us in the month of June.
HOW WILL YOU PREPARE?
With Ghislain Dubois, we will focus on the physical preparation. The reality of our league that we can not ask young people when we see fit. We will have to adapt to priorities. Players prepare for us individually and to organize training as often as possible.
WHAT ARE THE STRENGTHS OF THE BRITISH ACADEMY?
They have different templates that Schoolboys, the face of the game will not be the same. The British are much more players. They have an excellent structure, a good pair of running backs and a variation of game that makes the game very difficult. It is hard to counter, you never know what to expect from them.
AUSSIE TOO GOOD IN COLD Story BY : ASSRL
The match opened in very cold conditions (-3c) before a good local crowd at the Stade de la Myre Mory. Australia knocked on from the kickoff but France soon returned the error with the cold making its presence already.
The French referee looked as though he was going to emulate referees from previous tours when back rower Iain Riccardi strolled over for a good try only to be disallowed for a dropped ball over the line. Shortly thereafter the French led 2-0 after a penalty.
The Australian forwards then took control with some strong running from David Klemmer, Vaipuna Tia Kilifi and Matthew Groat.
A one on one steal allowed Cameron Cullen to set Matthew Groat charging at the line to score a well deserved try to take the score to Australia 10-2.
A clever chip over the top by the French five-eight allowed the French centre to gather and cross for a good try untouched. Shortly before half time Australian second rower, Vaipuna Tia Kilifi made a strong run to the line and scored with defenders hanging off him. Half time score Australia 26-8.
The French began the second half strongly, but Australian power came to the fore again in the 41st minute when Tau Tau Moga made a strong break to put Michael Chee Kam under the posts for a try.
In the next ten minutes the Australian forwards made ground with strong forward charges and good structured play. A series of tries ensued, scored by Jack Wighton, James Tedesco and Gerrard McCallum.
The French hooker created a clever try in the 55th minute of the game, with a deft pass to his winger. Iain Riccardi made up for his disallowed try at the start of the match to score the final try and take the scoreline to 56-12.
A highlight of the game was the goal kicking performance from Anthony Gadd, who converted 7 tries from 7 attempts, some from difficult angles.
Official Player of the Match was Australia No 9 Sam Irwin.
The next International match is Australia v French U19s at 7.00pm Thursday, 16 December 2010 at Stade Arnaune, Toulouse.
AUSTRALIAN SECONDARY SCHOOLS 56 (J Wighton 2, G McCallum, T Moga, L Pickerd, J Tedesco, M Chee-Kam, I Riccardi, V Tia Kilifi, M Groat tries; A Gadd 7, J Tedesco goals) defeated France Under 18yrs 12

YOUTH TEST MATCH
Three tries in less than ten minutes from uncompromising Parramatta flanker Jacob Gagan gave the Australian Schoolboys the advantage in Toulouse against the French Under-19s. His first, on 10 minutes, cut France’s lead to two after front row Nicolas Houblop had opened the scoring after 6 minutes.
The French did well to regather themselves after Gagan’s triple, and after left centre Noel Andreucetti’s converted try - the move of the match, labelled "a fine display of skill" by the Australian team manager - only trailed by two points. But two more converted Australian tries, the first after France lost possession in their own half, gave them a commanding 26-12 halftime lead.
France self-destructed in the second period, dropping the kick off and allowing Vaipuna Tia Kalifa to hit a great line onto Kack Wighton's pass to score under the posts. France upped the ante with a heavy tackle forcing Australia's excellent hooker, Sam Irwin, to be stretched from the field, then a huge tackle on Gagan had the crowd on their feet. Outside half Simon Grandjean's try increased the decibels but four minutes later Trent Jennings was the beneficiary following Lachlan Burr's break to make it 38-18. Two more tries against a tiring French defence handed the Schoolboys a well deserved victory in the last of their six matches on tour.
Jacob Gagan registered a hat-trick inside the first 20 minutes.

We feel the French will be in for a bit of a suprise when they take the field against the Australian Schoolboys tonite after their series loss to the England Academy last week.

ENGLAND WIN SERIES Story By Nathan CLARKE RFL
The England Academy completed their first series victory aganist the Australian Schoolboys in six years after a comprehensive 34-22 win in the second Test at Leigh Sports Village.
The tourists took the advantage early on when full-back Henare Wells scored in the opening stages but from that point on the first half was all England.
Sam Powell, Jordan Thompson, Ben Evans and Matthew Russell all crossed the line with Russell scoring the pick of the tries after an excellently executed back move saw the young Wigan player power over in the corner.
The second half began much the same for England with Jordan Thompson scoring his second of the game early on. It could have been more as Ben Evans and Ryan King both touched down only to have their efforts disallowed by referee Ben Thaler.
Australia capatalised and two opportunistic scores from Jacob Gagan and captain Paul Carter brought them back to 26-16 with 20 minutes remaining.
England's Rhys Evans scored a magnificent solo effort 15 minutes from time to help him seal the Man Of Match award and a consolation try from Trent Jennings wasn't enough to stop England sealing an historic win.

THOMPSON AIMING TO CREATE HISTORY Story BY : Nathan CLARKE RFL
Castleford Tiger’s and England Academy star Jordan Thompson is hoping to write his name into the history books by being part of the first England Academy side to defeat the Australian Schoolboys in a Test series since 2004.
Thompson was one of the stand out performers in the Academy’s 38-30 first Test victory over the Aussies and with the opportunity to complete a 2-0 series whitewash at Leigh Sports Village on Friday December 10 (K.O 7:30pm), Thompson is determined to help England to victory.
“It’s awesome to be part of the team,” said Thompson.
“We have the chance to make history here because we could be one of a few teams that beat the Aussies in a series and it’s been a few years since anyone has done that.
“When the final whistle went last week everyone it was awesome, everyone was delighted. The spirit in camp is fantastic and if we get the win on Friday everyone will be buzzing.”
Having completed an impressive turnaround to come from 12 points behind to defeat the Schoolboys by 8 points, Thompson and his teammates know the Australians will be more determined than ever to defeat their old foes.
“They will come out hard and will be looking to give us a few bruises,” he said. “They weren’t too happy about losing to us in the first game because I don’t think they were expecting it.
“But training has been great and everyone is feeling confident. We’ve had a chance to relax and had some steady sessions so we’re feeling good.
“I can’t wait until tomorrow, I’m really excited about the game and hopefully I’ll be able to put in another big performance which is what I’m aiming to do.”
POWELL LOOKING FOR STAR PERFORMANCE Story BY : Nathan CLARKE RFL
Sam Powell, star of England Academy’s first Test victory over the Australian Schoolboys is looking to put in another stand out performance when the sides clash again on Friday December 10 (K.O 7:30pm) at Leigh Sports Villages.
Half-back Powell, one of six Wigan Warriors players in the England Academy squad, was instrumental in helping England overturn a 12 point deficit to snatch victory and he’s hoping the squad can keep their composure and secure a 2-0 series whitewash.
“I’m looking forward to the game,” said Powell. “The team is looking good and looking strong, we’ve all come together and we’re looking good.
“We don’t beat the Aussies very often and when we do it’s when we put in a good performance. We have to keep our concentration on our game.
“We went 12 points down in the last game because we didn’t stick to our plan but when we got back to our game we pulled it back.”
The England Academy hasn’t won a series against Australia since 2004 and Powell is all too aware of the pressure on the class of 2010 to change that.
“I know there’s a bit of history with the games,” said Powell. “It’s been a few years since England beat the Aussies at this level so there’s some pressure on us, but we’ll try not to think too much about it and just concentrate on our game and the result will come.
“I had a good game which helped settle the nerves so hopefully I can put in another big performance during the second Test.
KRASNIQI DETERMINED TO PROVE HIS WORTH Story BY : Nathan CLARKE RFL
England Academy player Olsi Krasniqi is determined to seize his opportunity when he takes to the field against the Australian Schoolboys at Leigh Sports Village on Friday December 10.
Krasniqi missed England’s 38-30 victory in the first Test between the sides due to injury, but he has recovered in time for the second Test and is relishing the opportunity to help England complete a 2-0 series whitewash over Australia.
“It means the world for me to get to play against Australia,” said Krasniqi. “I’ve been out for a month now with a hamstring injury but I’ve been working really hard to get here and I can’t wait to get on the pitch.
“Everyone wants to play against the Aussie’s and hopefully we can build on the performance the boys put in last week and get the win.
“Whatever way the score line goes I think tomorrow will be brilliant because we have a great bunch of lads here and the spirit in the side is great and for me personally it’s been a brilliant experience.”
Krasniqi, who play for Harlequins RL, has already featured in several Super League games for the side and having joined the England camp earlier this week, the Albanian born prospect is hoping that a good performance against the Schoolboys could see him become a Super League regular in 2011.
“I’m really looking forward to playing,” said Krasniqi. “I want to prove to my club coaches that I have what it takes to be a week in week out Super League player and this is a great opportunity to kick start that.
“It was quite tough joining up this week because you don’t quite know where to put yourself, but everyone’s been very enthusiastic and welcoming so I’ve fitted right in.”

ENGLAND ACADEMY CAPTAIN HUNGRY FOR MORE SUCCESS Story By : Nathan CLARKE RFL
After leading the England Academy to a 38-30 victory over the Australian Schoolboys in the first of a two-Test series, Academy captain Adam Milner is hoping for a repeat performance when the sides meet in the second Test at Leigh Sports Village, Friday December 10. (K.O 7:30pm)
Milner was instrumental in helping England complete a dramatic turnaround to come from 12 points behind and secure an impressive eight point victory in the final stages of the first contest between the sides and he is confident that England can emulate that performance on Friday.
“We played well to beat the Aussies,” said Milner. “But we know it’s only half way. We still have another 80 minutes to play but it’s good to be on the front foot. Everyone played well in the first Test. It was a physical contest but that’s the spirit of the game and we know there will be more of the same to come.
“Personally I was disappointed with my performance in the first half, I missed a few tackles and I didn’t really control the game like I wanted to but the whole team stepped up in the second half and found an extra bit of spirit which seen us through to the end.
“The result has given us a great confidence boost, but going into the second game I’m hoping everyone can give even more than they did in the first game.”
Victory in the second Test would secure a 2-0 series whitewash for England and their first series victory over the Schoolboys since 2004, but Milner knows the Australians will be more determined than ever to defeat their perennial foes.
“We’ll need to be ready for the second Test,” said Milner. “The Aussies will come out fired up next week and they’ll be determined to beat us so we’ll have to be on the ball and at the top of our game to get the win.
“It would be great to get a series win, it’s been a few years since an Academy side has managed to do that so hopefully we can put in the performance we need and get the result.”
The second Test between the England Academy and the Australian Schoolboys takes place at Leigh Sports Village on Friday December 10 (K.O. 7:30pm). Tickets for the contest are available on the day and cost £3 Adult and £2 Concession

After being caned in the penalty count in the first half, the Joeys showed tremendous resilience to level matters at half-time and twice held convincing twelve point leads in the second half only to fritter away possession and opportunity.
In doing so, England grasped the initiative and finished strongly with the last three tries of the game.
England opened the score after two minutes when two quick penalties from the whistle of test referee Steve Ganson saw them march 60 metres upfield.
The first came on the back of a high tackle from prop Matthew Groat but the second was a harsh call and as a result the Joey's temporarily lost focus which allowed Sam Powell to grasp the advantage.
It was the outstanding England number seven who fired the ball left for Wigan team-mate Danny Bridge to cross the line. Gareth O'Brien added the first of seven goals and it started a period of dominance for the English.
Starved of possession and haemorrhaging penalties, Australia were up against it as the England pack, led by powerhouse George Burgess, younger brother of Rabbitohs star Sam, laid a big platform.
During his first stint Burgess was excellent. His upright running style teased a couple of penalties out of the referee while skipper Adam Milner and lock James Laithwaite worked hard.
Milner knocked on at the line after four minutes but England continued to force the Australian defence to scramble with Jacob Gagan twice in the right place to deny opposite wing Reece Lyne.
A rare excursion took Australia into the England half when scrum-half Harry Seijka fired a superb touch finder and the hosts lost the ball.
This allowed a counter attack down the left from Trent Jennings at the base of the scrum but Gareth O'Brien tackled back. It was a frustrating time for Australia with captain Paul Carter pinged for an off the ball incident and Michael Chee-Kam penalised for an incorrect play-the-ball.
With 23 minutes gone, England lost momentum with the withdrawal of Burgess although Milner saw a try chalked off due to a trailing leg in touch.
It was the Joeys turn to pounce. First Seijka split the defence in a move reminiscent of Alfie Langer or Geoff Toovey before linking with Gagan down the right.
That fifty metre foray put the hosts on the back foot and after Jordan Thompson came up with an excellent read to stop five-eight Jack Wighton, he was unable to repeat it two plays later when Trent Jennings linked with his halfbacks before ducking his shoulder and making the line.
This gave a difficult conversion attempt to interchange forward Anthony Gadd which he slotted with ease to tie the game at 6-6 after 26 minutes.
Australia looked to be getting on top and were soon in the England twenty on the back of some strong work by Chee-Kam and a couple of rare penalties.
Sadly for the Joeys, a promising move came to nought when Carter saw the ball slip from his grasp after Chad Redman and Seijka had opened the defence.
Back came the English and they scored a second try when Ryan King went over at the corner for O'Brien to convert. Not to be outdone, Australia's response was quick and a midfield bomb caused havoc.
In the confusing melee, Vaipuna Tia Kilifi picked up the pieces and held off the cover to score while Gadd tied the game up. There was still time for more drama when big David Klemmer was sinbinned before the break but Australia held out to go to the lockers at 12-all.
The second half began superbly for the Joeys and they fired out of the blocks with two tries in the first seven minutes.
Matthew Russell knocked on at the back for England when he tried to recover a well placed Seijka grubber kick on the greasy surface. The Schoolboys went route one with simple ruck plays and only a good tackle halted Seijka after the little half got through the first line of defence.
From the play-the-ball, Redman forced his way over with Gadd converting to make it 18-12. Despite England marching downfield to a threatening position, it was Australia that scored first.
The dangerous Gagan swept up a difficult grubber kick on his line and outflanked two players before Lyne found an extra burst of speed to just haul the wing man to the floor.
Clinically the ball came to the middle of the field where Wighton found acres of space and not many men to speed past a brief attempted clutch from Jared Stewart. Gadd converted once more and it was 24-12.
Errors began to creep into play and one such scrappy move saw England scrum-half Powell scoop up and virtually disco dance his way to the line; swerving in, out and away from Tautau Moga.
O'Brien's third goal made it 24-18 but again Australia stepped up their efforts and returned from their opponents twenty with six points when a cracking pass from Seijka saw Carter cross under the posts after 62 minutes.
At 30-18 it should have been game over for England but they blasted back into the contest three minutes later when a rare offload in the difficult conditions unlocked the defence. Greg Burke got the pass away and Milner scurried down the middle before linking with hometown boy Matthew Sarsfield and he went over under the posts.
It was then the turn of Thompson to get over the line when a towering kick from O'Brien was spilled by Henare Wells after 69 minutes and the centre touched down. Although O'Brien could not conver he did tag on a penalty goal to tie the scores after Carter backchatted four minutes later.
Having equalised, England went for the throat despite the defensive efforts of Lachlan Burr. George Burgess was at the forefront of this late surge and he received good support from Milner and Burke.
This extra impetus allowed halfbacks O'Brien and Powell to take centre stage and Powell obliged, creating and scoring his second try with a low kick that saw Gerard McCallum fumble.
O'Brien converted and then rubbed salt in Australian wounds with a penalty to confirm a 38-30 win.

ENGLAND ACADEMY OFF TO A WINNING START Story By : Nathan CLARKE RFL
The England Academy got their Test series against the Australian Schoolboys off to the best possible start by coming from 12 points behind to seal an impressive 38-30 victory in the first Test at Leigh Sports Village.
England got off to a flying start with second row Danny Bridge scoring within the first few minutes and they continued to dominate the first half with winger Ryan King also getting on the score sheet. England could easily have had 20 points on the board at half time had they capitalised on some golden opportunities but some basic errors cost them dear, allowing the Australians to cross the white wash twice and take the sides into the interval level at 12-12.
The Australians took control in the opening stages of the second half, scoring two quick converted tries before the 50 minute mark to take the scores to 24-12. It could have been worse for England when Australian winger Jacob Gagan broke free in his own 20 with no one in front of him, but an heroic effort from Reece Lyne stopped Gagan two meters short of the line.
From then on England took charge with Academy captain Adam Milner seizing control and leading his side to victory. With the scores at 30-18 and only ten minutes left to go, Milner broke through the middle to set up Matthew Sarsfield who scored under the posts to make it 30-24 after England’s Sam Powell had his score cancelled out by Australian captain Paul Carter.
Milner broke through again moments later to create a platform for his Castleford Tigers teammate Jordan Thompson to score. Gareth O’Brien missed the conversion which kept the score at 30-28, but Milner earned his side a penalty seconds later which O’Brien slotted over with ease to bring the sides level.
In the dying minutes, England’s Sam Powell latched on to his own kick to make it 34-30 and O’Brien added the extras before scoring another penalty to give the England side a hard fought and well deserved 38-30 victory.
Speaking after the game, England Academy Head Coach Dave Elliott said, “I’m really proud of all the boys. They have really dug in deep today. At 30-18 down they could easily have caved in but they showed a lot of effort to come back.
“We wanted to prove some people wrong. There have been people saying that the Australian’s are much better than us and that they are a more talented side, but we’ve got some skill in our team and our boys wanted to show that.
“We withstood everything they threw at us and then some. There are some big units in their side but there are some big talented guys in our squad as well and I think that was a fantastic game for all the fans to watch.
“Adam Milner put in a real captains knock today and James Laithwaite got man of the match which I think four of five people could have won.
“We know the jobs only half done now though. We would love to win a test series against the Australians and the lads are all very focused on winning the series, not just this test.”
Tickets for the second Test between England Academy and Australian Schoolboys at The Jungle, Castleford on Friday, December 10, cost £3 Adult and £2 Concession.

ENGLAND ACADEMY NAME 19-MAN SQUAD FOR AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLBOY GAME Story By : Nathan CLARKE RFL
England Academy Head Coach Dave Elliott has named his 19-man squad for the first Test against the Australian Schoolboys to be played at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday, December 4. (K.O 2:00pm)
The squad is dominated by academy players from 2010’s silverware winning sides, with 11 of the 19 players coming from Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors and Elliott is confident that this side will be more than a match for the tourists.
“We know the Australians are big, strong lads who’ll make things tough for us,” said Elliot. “So we’ll be going into this game expecting the same type of physical game we always get from Australia.
“But we’ve got a group of very talented players to chose from ourselves. Several of our squad have already had Super League experience and that combination of talent and experience provides us with a team capable of putting in some really good performances and getting a result.
“There is a confident mood in camp and the conditions could prove tough for the Australians so we’ll have to exploit that on the day.”
ENGLAND ACADEMY CAPTAIN READY FOR AUSTRALIAN CHALLENGE Story & Photo By : Nathan CLARKE RFL
England Academy captain Adam Milner is relishing the opportunity to lead his country from the front when they face the Australian Schoolboys in the first of a two Test series at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday, December 4. (K.O 2:00pm)
Milner will join a list of past England Academy captains which includes England’s recent Four Nations captain James Graham. Graham’s international teammates Sam Burgess and Luke Robinson are just a selection of other players who have recently represented the England Academy side before progressing to senior level and Milner is hoping to follow their footsteps.
“It’s a great privilege for me to be named as captain of the England side,” said Milner. “It’s also a bit of a surprise. I’ve never really been a captain before but I’m really honoured to be given the captains role and I can’t wait to lead the boys out to face the Schoolboys.”
“If I can be anything like some of the players who have previously played for the Academy then I’d be delighted. To be mentioned in the same breath as guys like Burgess and Graham is an honour for me, but I know I have a long way to go before I can be considered in their class. But it’s a great confidence boost to know so many academy players have gone on to become England players.”
On the eve of the Academy's first Test against the Australian Schoolboys, Milner and his squad know they have the opportunity to prove themselves against their counterparts from Down Under and he says there is a confident mood within the Academy camp.
“Training so far has been going good,” said the Castleford Tigers player. “We’ve worked hard at getting the squad to blend together and the team spirit now is fantastic.
“We’re expecting the games against the Australians to be very tough and we’ve heard rumours about the players coming over here, but we've been studying their team to see what exactly we’re going up against and what we need to do.
“We’ve got some very talented players in this side and I’m confident that we can perform well on the day and get the result that we all want.”

BURGESS LOOKING TO EMULATE BROTHERS Story By : Nathan CLARKE RFL Media Release
Bradford Bulls prospect George Burgess has expressed his determination to emulate his older brothers and become one of England’s top Rugby League stars, ahead of his England Academy debut at Barrow’s Mark Coward Stadium on Saturday, December 4.
Burgess will have his first opportunity to follow the path of brothers Sam and Luke when he takes to the field to represent the England Academy side against the touring Australian Schoolboys in the first of a two Test series.
Burgess’s brothers both progressed through the Academy system to go on and forge successful professional careers and with twin brother Tom coming through the Bradford ranks as well, the Burgess family dynasty looks set to continue.
“It’s a great honour for me to be part of the Academy and to be able to follow in my brothers footsteps,” said Burgess. “It’s great to be able to play for your country and hopefully that will lead on to even bigger things like my brothers have done, so hopefully I can go on to do the same.
“This is the first block in most of our careers and hopefully we’ll all be able to go on from here and play for the senior England side and it would be a great honour for all of us to be able to do that.”
Burgess is joined in the Academy squad by Bradford teammates Cain Southernwood and Adam O’Brien and he knows that the game against Australia will be a tough test for everyone involved within the Academy setup.
“I’d really like to put in a big performance against the Aussie’s,” said Burgess. “I think everyone always seems to think that they’re better than us but I feel this is our time to show people that we can perform as well and we can beat them.
“The Australian side will have had a lot of warm-up games before they come to play us so we’ll be expecting them to be able to play good football, but we’ve got a good side here with plenty of talent and we all feel like we can match them.
“There are lots and lots of talented players in this side and it’s one of the best groups of players that I’ve seen in a while.”

A good Featherstone crowd witnessed a polished display from the Australians who improved immensely form the first match on tour. The first half of football saw the Aussies dominate possession, completing 13/18sets, to run in eight first half tries.
The highlight of the first period was a scintillating 90 metre try by centre Tau Tau Moga down the right flank, stepping and weaving and palming off numerous defenders.
With the match rules allowing the use of 20 players and unlimited interchange, Coach Brendan Barlow used the opportunity to give all players game time and press their claims for selection in the upcoming Internationals against the England Academy.
The man of the match award went to Australian No 3 Tau Tau Moga.
The Players Player award went to Australian No 5 David Nofoaluma, who had an outstanding match, continually breaking the line and proving very difficult for the opposition to tackle.

EASTMOND COMMENDS ENGLAND ACADEMY TALENT Story By : Nathan CLARKE RFL
England international and St Helens half-back Kyle Eastmond has thrown his support behind the England Academy side for their upcoming two-Test series against the touring Australian Schoolboy’s at the Mark Coward Stadium, Barrow (Saturday December 4) and The Jungle, Castleford (Friday December 10).
The former England Academy player represented the side in 2006 and went on to make his first team debut for St Helens only a year later and he knows how vital the England Academy experience can be.
“To be selected for your country at that age and to go through the academy competition for the year and get to take that step up, it doesn’t get any better,” said Eastmond.
“No matter what age or level of competition you are playing in, to represent your country is the highest honour you can get and the players in this year’s academy side need to honour that position and have a lot of respect for the shirt.
“All the guys in this year’s side have plenty of talent and it’s great to see these young players coming through and making the grade.
“They need to realise that they are more than capable of competing with and beating the Australians and the games between the two should be very exciting and give these young lads the sort of physical challenge they need to help take them that next step.”
The England Academy has an impressive track record of being the showground place for England’s next stars, with many of England’s recent Four Nations squad having appeared on an Academy team sheet in the last few years
“It’s good going up against the best of Australia’s young players,” said Eastmond. “But the lads playing for England need to remember that they are the best young players in their own country as well.
“Once you understand that, it gives you a great confidence boost and gives you the belief in your own abilities that helps you take that next step and progress to become a first team Super League regular and then onto senior international level.
“You learn an awful lot from playing against the Australian Schoolboys because they play a completely different style of rugby. It gives you a real good challenge to test your skills against them and see where you stand and also to see what you can learn.”
“A lot of the guys in the Aussie team we played against have gone on to become NRL and full Australian international players. That just shows you that these guys really are the best players Australia has to offer and to go up against them at that age is a real boost for the English players.
“I can remember when we played against Israel Folau. He was a physical freak at that time. He was such a massive kid who was just able to bounce players off him with ease, it was insane to watch. But in one of the games, an English player ran around him easily and scored, which showed us that we had the ability and that there was nothing to be afraid of.
“They’re definitely good players but they can be beaten just like every other team.”
Tickets for both England Academy v Australian Schoolboy games on Saturday, December 4 (Barrow. K.O 2:00pm) and Friday, December 10 (Castleford. K.O 7:30pm) can be purchased on the day and cost £3 adult and £2 concession (Under 16, Students and Over 65)

“It’s a great privilege for me to be named as captain of the England side,” said Milner. “It’s also a bit of a surprise. I’ve never really been a captain before but I’m really honoured to be given the captains role and I can’t wait to lead the boys out to face the schoolboys.”
Graham’s international teammates Sam Burgess and Luke Robinson are just a selection of players who have recently represented the England Academy side and gone on to represent their nation at senior level and the prospect of following in their footsteps is one that Milner is relishing.
“If I can be anything like those players then I’d be delighted,” he said. “To even be mentioned in the same breath as them is an honour for me but I know I have a long way to go before I can be considered in their class but it’s a great confidence boost to know so many academy players have gone on to become England players.”
Now with a two Test series coming up against the Australian Schoolboys, Milner and his squad have the opportunity to test themselves against their counterparts from Down Under and he says there is currently a confident mood within the Academy camp.
“Training so far has been going good,” he said. “We’ve had to work hard at getting the squad to blend together but the team spirit now is fantastic, we’ve had a good experience and we’ve been on some team bonding days as well which has helped everyone settle in and get used to it.
“We’re expecting the games against the Australians to be very tough and we’ve heard rumours about the players coming over here but we haven’t done much work on them yet. Once we go into camp it will be a different story though, we’ll be training hard and studying their team to see what exactly we’re going up against.”
2010 has been a breakthrough year for Milner as not only has he been given the honour of captaining his country, he also made his Super League debut for Castleford Tigers and passed his A-Level examinations in the process, achievements which have left him extremely satisfied.
“It’s been a really successful year for me and hopefully now I can end it with victory over the Aussie team,” said Milner. “I’ve had my first Super League cap and I’ve been named captain of my country. But I also passed my A-Level’s this year and the week I passed my exams I made my super league debut, so to have everything come along so quickly is unbelievable really.
“Playing in Super League and entering the full-time environment where you are surrounded by seasoned players who have an awful lot of knowledge to pass on is a great learning curve.”
Despite becoming a Super League player and Academy captain, Milner remains a grounded young athlete who commands respect from his teammates through his on-field mentality and he feels that it is thanks to his family that he is in the position he is in now.
“I didn’t even want to play rugby when I was a kid,” said Milner. “My mum used to drag me to training and take me to the pitch, sometimes I thought she was even going to go training with me she was that keen for me to play!
“But I’m glad she was there to encourage me to keep playing because I wouldn’t be where I am no without her and I’ve got a lot to thank her my whole family for, they took me to training when I was young and have always been very supportive of me.”
Milner will now have the opportunity to lead his side out in front of his family on home soil in the second test, when England will take on the Schoolboys at The Jungle in Castleford and Milner can’t wait for the chance to captain his country in front of his home crowd.
“It’ll will be a great honour for me to lead the side out at Castleford,” he said. “I can’t even really explain what it will mean to me. My parents will be bringing everyone they know to the game and they’ll be supporting me, but it’s a team game and we’ll need to play at our best on the day and hopefully we’ll leave as a winning team.”

Wales U18's with the Australian Schoolboys after the test match
Matt Groat & Chad Redman (behind Matt) both had a huge games
SCHOOLBOYS GIVE MASTER CLASS Story By : by Mark Harris at Caerphilly RFC, Virginia Park, Caerphilly WALES U18 4 AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLBOYS 56
A spirited Welsh performance was unable to stem the tide as two outstanding ten minute periods of rugby league from the visitors saw the Australian Schoolboys ease to a 56-4 win at Caerphilly RFC.
Wales got off to the perfect start, at the five minute mark, as Australia turned the ball over at the half way line; Wales moved up field and on the last tackle a high bomb from Captain Daf Carter was fumbled in the air but the Australians.
Mike Channing capitalised by picking up the lose ball and dived over in the corner to give Wales 4-0 lead.
The next seven minutes saw some almost flawless rugby from the Australians as they scored three back to back tries.
On each occasion they made good yardage up field from the kick off and while the defence were on the back foot some slick passing near the Welsh line created gaps which the visitors took full advantage of.
The first touchdown came from Harry Seijka who dived over on the right, followed by an almost exact replica by Chad Redman up the middle and finally Captain Paul Carter got his name on the score sheet.
Two conversions from Seijka gave the Australians a 4-16 lead.
Wales began to claw their way back into the game and had a five minute period of pressure on the Australian line but were unable to capitalise. A loose Welsh pass was picked up and punished by Harry Seijka who ran from the halfway line to score in the corner for the visitors giving them a 4-20 lead at the beak.
The second half started more tentatively as both sides were penalised for a series of forward passes and it took until the tenth minute for the Australians to get on the scoreboard. Good position on the back of a penalty allowed the visitors to swing the ball out to the right for Tautau Moga to touchdown. Seijka converted to make the lead twenty two.
Five minutes later the visitors turned on the style again with another display of top drawer football scoring four back to back tries in a ten minute spell effectively killing off the game. Scores came from Chris Grevshmuhl with Carter and Redman picking up their second and the pick of the bunch by Jacob Gagan who picked up an offload after a great twenty metre break from Carter to touch down in the corner.
Two further conversions from Seijka and one from Gadd made the score reach 4-52.
Wales managed to generate some pressure on the Australian line near the end of the game only for the visitors to pick up the ball and run the full length of the pitch. The Welsh “never say die” attitude gave the home fans something to cheer about as the defence tracked back tackling the winger into touch five yards out from the try line.
The Australians however had the last word as after another period of Welsh pressure they worked their way up field and Jacob Gagan ghosted through the tiring Welsh defence, at the whistle, to wrap up the score at 4-56.

TEST MATCH ON INTERNET RADIO Listen to the Australian Schoolboys v Wales U18's TEST ( It seems to work using 'I-TUNES" )
Local Welsh community radio station GTFM will be providing live coverage of the Rugby League under 18 international between Wales and Australia next Tuesday (kick-off 7.30pm).
The match is being played at Virginia Park in Caerphilly, which also hosted the under 18 game between Wales and England this Wednesday that ended in an exciting 26-26 draw.
Coverage will be presented by Ioan Dyer, who is a regular reporter at Crusaders for GTFM, and will be part of the Welsh language show “Y Clwb Cymraeg”. The show will be presented live from the ground and as much of the game as possible will be covered in addition to the regular featurettes that make up the popular Tuesday night show.
The show can be accessed by going to www.gtfm.co.uk and while most of the show will be presented in Welsh, the main updates from the match will be bilingual.
“We know that we will have a lot of new listeners to this show, not just from Wales but from England and Australia too,” said Dyer. “So while the introductions to the segments of the game that we feature will be in Welsh, we will then revert to English for the commentary.
“We are pleased to be presenting coverage of this important international, not just for Wales but for the Australians as it is their first game in a big tour of the UK that includes two tests against the England Academy. We believe that this is the first time that a game from this regular four-year tour has been covered live on the radio for a worldwide audience and we at GTFM are proud to be the innovators here in Wales.
“GTFM is very proud of its Rugby League and its sports coverage as a whole. We were the only Welsh radio station who were in France doing live updates during the recent France v Wales Alitalia European Cup match as part of our “Season Ticket” show which covers a variety of sports every Saturday, while many other shows throughout the week give extensive coverage to local sport. We are originators and one of the homes to the “Cardiff City Phone-In” that transmits three nights a week, while our “Ponty Rugby Show” every Friday covers the best of local rugby, which does also include League during that season.
“So if you can’t make it to the ground, please tune in to us next Tuesday from 7pm for a slice of Welsh culture and to listen to what will be a very interesting and exciting game.”
Admission to the match at Virginia Park in Caerphilly costs just £3 for adults and £1 for children and will be all pay on the night.

AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLBOY’S RELISHING ENGLISH CHALLENGE Story & Photo By : & Nathan Clarke RFL
Australian Schoolboy stars Matt Groat and Cameron Cullen are craving the opportunity to take to the field against the England Academy...
Australian Schoolboy stars Matt Groat and Cameron Cullen are craving the opportunity to take to the field against the England Academy and put their skills on show when the sides meet in a two test series in early December.
The Schoolboys are due to embark upon a five game tour of Great Britain beginning against Wales U18s on November 23, before facing the England community Lions, Great Britain community Lions and a two Tests series against the England Academy which climaxes at Castleford’s Jungle stadium on December 10.
West Tigers U20 star Groat and Brisbane Broncos U20 star Cullen are seen as two of the most promising talents in the Schoolboy side and are eagerly awaiting their chance to put their skills on display in England and seeing just how good the England side are.
“I can’t wait to experience the UK and all it has to offer,” said Cullen, an intelligent young halfback who the Australian’s think may have the key to unlocking the English defence. “It’s an honour to wear the green and gold jersey and represent my country overseas. Running out with the boys will be something I’ll never forget.
“I’m not too familiar with the England Academy or their players this year, however I have heard some big names have come out of that system in recently that now represent England in the Four Nations, so I’ll definitely expect them to be a competitive team and when it comes to playing Australia I’m sure they will lift to the occasion.”
Groat has previous experience representing the Schoolboys, having played in the side that defeated the touring Great Britain community Lions in 2009 and he’s looking forward to seeing what the elite of England’s youth system has to offer.
“It is always an honour for me to put on the Australian Jersey and I am very excited about the trip,” said Groat, a tough front row forward. “I was with the 2009 Australian Schoolboys camp and the experience has taught me to use my strengths on and off the pitch and as a result I have become a more confident player.
“I played against the Great Britain community Lions before and I’m sure they will have learnt a lot from last year’s games and will want to beat us and with us playing them on their turf, they’ll have the advantage.”
With the likes of Greg Inglis and Brad Fittler just a few of the names to have graced the Australian Schoolboy side in the past, the current crop of players will be sure to contain stars of the future and both Groat and Cullen believe that this side has plenty of talent in the ranks.
“I don’t know that much about the England Academy team myself,” said Groat. “I’m sure it will be a very physical battle when we face them and our players and Coaches will need to do their homework but I am more than up for the challenge of playing against them and I think our team is very dangerous.
“I really rate our forward pack, they’re big and strong and I think our backs have great speed and footwork to get over the gain line and our couching staff and management staff are second to none.”
Cullen echoes his teammates thoughts, “We have a very strong forward pack that will take a bit of stopping,” he said.
“We also have some freakish players in the backline who can change games on their own and playing against the English team should be a great experience for us all.”
Tickets for both England Academy versus Australian Schoolboy on Saturday, December 4 (Barrow. K.O 2:30pm) and Friday, December 10 (Castleford. K.O 7:30pm) can be purchased on the day and cost £3 adult and £2 concession (Under 16, Students and Over 65)

Harlequins RL's Krasniqi has been named in the 20 man England Academy squad for the upcoming series against the touring Australian Schoolboy's which will see the sides clash in two Test matches at Craven Park, Barrow (Saturday December 4) and The Jungle, Castleford (Friday December 10).
The squad features seven academy players from 2010 Engage Super League champions Wigan Warriors, five from 2010 Challenge Cup winners Warrington Wolves, two from Castleford Tigers, including England Academy captain Adam Milner, two from Bradford Bulls along with a sole representative from Hull FC, Harlequins RL, St Helens and Leeds Rhinos.
The Australian Squad is sure to consist of several future NRL and International stars, with the likes of Greg Inglis, Brad Fittler and Danny Buderus just a few of the names previously seen on the Schoolboy's team sheet, but England Academy Head coach Dave Elliott is looking forward to what promises to be a tough series and remains confident that there is equally as much quality in the England Academy ranks, with the likes of current England Captain James Graham, Sam Burgess and Sean O'Loughlin having represented the Academy side in recent years.
"We'll expect what we always expect from Australia", said Elliott. "They're going to bring over some big, strong, athletic lads who'll have plenty of experience from playing Toyota Cup rugby Down Under and it will be a tough battle for us as usual.
"But I'm confident that we've got a bunch of really talented players to chose from. Several of our squad have already got first grade Super League experience which is invaluable for them and there are also some very exciting and promising young players in the squad and that combination should provide us with a team capable of putting in some really good performances."
2010's two silverware winning sides Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves have provided the bulk of the squad, providing 12 of the 20 squad members combined and Elliott believes it is a sign of the great work being done by all sides within the academy system this year.
"Wigan and Warrington have been the outstanding teams in the academy level competitions this season," said Elliott. "What's been really good to see is that many of the teams in the league have been playing under 18 players in the under 20's competitions, which is giving the younger lads that extra test and extra experience.
"All the clubs are doing a great job of developing young players and they have been able to bring players on at their natural progression rate. There will always be players who can adapt and progress quicker than others and clubs have done a good job at identifying each players needs this year."
While the Australian side will no doubt be full of skilled players, the prospect of playing a Test game during the British winter is likely to be an experience many of the Schoolboy's have never previously experienced and Elliott believes that could be an advantage for the English side.
"It's always nice playing at places such as The Galpharm or DW stadium," said Elliott. "But we thought it would be good for our guys to get Test match experience in different venues. Castleford's ground creates a great atmosphere and Barrow especially will be a test of elements as well as a test of skills and it will be great to see a Test game played in Cumbria, but with the games being played in December, the conditions could prove tough for the Australian's and we'll have to exploit that."

Despite a brave effort the England Community Lions U18s slipped to defeat in Bordeaux last night.
The Lions can perhaps count themselves unlucky on an evening that saw them play large periods of the game with 12 men after two sin-binnings and also the lose of prop Sam Hull who suffered a broken leg.
Despite not picking up a win coach Kelvin Lockett was not too down-hearted.
“I thought the boys dug in, especially after we lost Blake Mahovic – who was probably our best player – to the sin-bin.”
“I’m very proud of the boys and we will now start again as we look ahead to facing Wales in a couple of weeks time.”
The visitors took an early lead when Thatto Heath Crusaders winger Corey Lee touched down after just three minutes and despite the French replying through Anthony Deleigne, an effort from fellow Crusader Nathan Skupski nudged the Lions ahead with just 15 minutes played.
In a close first period two tries in just four minutes from Yanich Remoic and Valantin Ferret meant the French were 14-8 ahead at the break, however the Lions were still very much in the game.
The new look Lions knew that the next score would probably prove to be crucial and unfortunately it was France who came up with it when winger Remoic went over for his second of the night.
Another quick-fire burst which saw impressive centre Petuch Reynier cross twice in three minutes which effectively ended the contest and Benjamin Garcia finished the scoring with a try in the final quarter.
Captain David Pike lamented the loss of two players to the sin-bin, but could also see some positives from the game.
“We started really well and had France on the back foot, but a run of penalties cost us both field position and points.”
“We were down to 12-men for a period in both halfs and that’s what really cost us.”
“All the boys are really gutted with the injury to Sam. He’s now going to have to stay out here for another couple of days to recover but I’m sure he’ll be fine and will be back on the field as soon as he can.”

LOCKETT NAMES ENGLAND SQUAD Story By : RLF Photo By :
Head coach Kelvin Lockett has named a 26-man England Community Lions U18s squad for the internationals this autumn.
Head Coach Kelvin Lockett has named a 28-man England Community Lions U18s squad for the internationals this autumn.
Gillette National Youth League champions West Cumbria provide four members of the squad, whilst the midlands have three representatives in George Leng (Leicester Storm), Sam Hull (North Derbyshire) and Ryan Miller (Birmingham Bulldogs).
The month of November is set to be a real test for the side as they take on France Juniors, Wales and the touring Australian Schoolboys in a little over three weeks.
The full squad will hold their first training session this weekend before a reduced 18-man squad will be named to travel to Bordeaux for the first clash against their French counterparts on Wednesday November 3.
Great Britain Community Lions coach Dave Woods will be a keen spectator at all three games as he looks to select his side for the one off test match against the touring Schoolboys at Whitehaven on Wednesday December 1.

SCHOOLBOY’S SQUAD ANNOUNCED FOR UK TOUR Story By : RLF Media Release
The Australian Schoolboys will arrive next month and face an intriguing five-game tour against some of the best junior talent the UK has to offer.
The tourists are scheduled to land on Saturday November 20 –just three days before their opening encounter against Wales U18s at Blackwood on Wednesday November 23 – and if previous tours are anything to go by fans in the UK could be treated to seeing some potential NRL and international stars of the future.
“The Australian Schoolboys have a tremendous reputation and consistently provide many players who go on to reach the very pinnacle of our game,” said Andy Harland, RFL National Development Manager.
“It’s always a great event when they come over to these shores and I’d urge all fans of the game to try and get themselves along to one of the games.”
“From a community game perspective it’s a great honour for us to be able to face such a famous side and I know that whoever gains selection for the Community Lions sides will be desperate to test themselves against such strong opposition.”
After facing Wales U18s, then taking on both the England and Great Britain Community Lions sides the tourists will close their UK commitments with a two-game test series against the England Academy.
The tests – which will be held in Barrow and Castleford – are sure to keenly fought contests and over the years many players from both sides have gone on to gain full international honours for their countries.
“The test series is going to be a great advert for Rugby League and it is more than likely that players from both sides could be facing each other in the full national sides in the coming years,” said BJ Mather, the RFL’s Head of Player Development.
“The last Schoolboys touring party contained players such as Israel Falou, David Taylor and Chris Lawrence and we all know how their careers have continued to progress.”
“From an England perspective players such as Sam Burgess, Kyle Eastmond and Sean O’Loughlin have come through the Academy system so by coming to see these games you really are seeing the stars of the future.”

SCHOOLBOYS TOUR DATES CONFIRMED Story & Photo By :
The tour dates for this years Australian Schoolboys tour of the Uk have been confirmed with the first game against Wales on Tuesday 23 rd November.
The Australian Schoolboys also play games against the England Community Lions, the Great Britain Community Lions and finally two test matches against the awesome England Academy sides which are full of super league players.
The AIS team is also touring France & the Uk at about the same time, ourfootyteam will be covering both tours again this year with player interviews, message boards, action photo's, match reports and of course all the fun on tour with the boyz.
KEEN CULLEN EUROPE BOUND Story By :
BRISBANE Broncos-bound youngster Cameron Cullen appears destined to fulfill his dream of playing in the National Rugby League (NRL) one day, but first he will join the nation’s most talented juniors as they embark on a grueling tour of Europe to face many of the world’s best underage players.
“It’s something I’ve always aimed for since representative footy started when I was about 15, so it was a good achievement to make the Australian side,” Cullen says.
After assembling at Canberra’s Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) next month, the Aussies will head off to England where they will come up against a highly fancied England Academy side of professional juniors, before playing the French and Welsh junior teams.
Cullen is expecting the English sides to provide the biggest test, but simply can’t wait for the five-week tour to
begin.
“Just the whole experience will be great. Going over to places like England and France with a group of boys to play for Australia is going to be awesome.”
The Year 12 Palm Beach Currumbin State High School student was selected for Australia after an impressive showing at July’s National Under 18 Championships at Burleigh Heads, where he captained the Queensland team to a second place finish behind New South Wales Combined High Schools.
“We were always the underdogs, as we’re all younger than the New South Wales teams, but we had a good feel
going into it and had high expectations,” the 17-year-old says.
“Our preparation was good coming into the final but we just didn’t turn up on the day; we were just a bit flat and they got over us.”
Upon his return from Europe, Cullen is hopeful of securing a spot with the Broncos National Youth Cup (NYC) team to compete in next year’s Toyota Cup Competition, and having begun development work at Brisbane since he was 14, it appears a spot on the NYC side is well within reach.
