BRISBANE SECOND DIVISION RUGBY LEAGUE WRAP-UP FOR 30 AUGUST 2008

The final Grand Finals for the year, in Northside 1, Southside 1 and the Arthur Sparks Shield were played at Davies Park in front of a crowd of just on 3000 patrons.

In Northside 1, Banyo led the minor premiers, Valleys Juniors, 26-0 at half time, but Valleys came back well in the second half, before Banyo won the match 30-10, scoring six tries to two.

In Southside 1, Logan Brothers led Carina 14-6 at half time, but Carina, who had finished fourth in the premiership, came back to win the match 28-20, scoring five tries to four.

In the Arthur Sparks Shield, Logan Brothers proved too strong for Norths St Josephs. Logan led 22-4 at half time, before winning the match 46-14, scoring nine tries to three.

The League thanks all those who have made 2008 another very successful season.

Preliminary Finals in Northside 1 and Southside 1 were played at Davies Park while the two Preliminary Finals in the Arthur Sparks Shield were played at Carina. There was a crowd of just over 700 at Davies Park.

In Northside 1, Banyo led Mitchelton 16-12 at half time before going on to win 28-22, with both teams scoring five tries. Valleys Juniors will play Banyo next Saturday in the Grand Final at Davies Park at 3.00 PM.

In Southside 1, Carina scored six tries to four in defeating Easts Juniors 28-22, after leading 18-10 at half time. Logan Brothers will play Carina in the Grand Final next Saturday at 1.15 PM.

There were two Preliminary Finals in the Arthur Sparks Shield. In the first of these, Logan Brothers scored seven tries to four in defeating Souths Juniors 34-22 after leading 18-10 at half time. In the second match there was an upset, with Norths St Josephs defeating Albany Creek 26-24 in a match in which both teams scored five tries and the scores were level at 12-all at half time. In the Grand Final next Saturday at Davies Park, Logan Brothers will play Norths St Josephs at 11.30 AM.

Grand Finals were played in the Southside 3, Southside 4 and Albert Bishop Shield grades in front of a crowd of around 2,700, while semi finals and elimination finals were played in the Northside 1, Southside 1 and Arthur Sparks Shield grades.

In Southside 3, Cannon Hill scored seven tries to four in defeating Logan Wanderers 34-20. Cannon Hill led 20-10 at half time.

In Southside 4, Mustangs Brothers were too strong for Bulimba Valleys, winning the match 36-4. Mustangs led 24-4 at half time and scored six tries to one.

In the Albert Bishop Shield, Easts Juniors scored five tries to two in defeating Capalaba 27-12. Easts led 17-6 at half time.

In the Northside 1 semi finals Mitchelton beat Deception Bay Bombers 36-26 in the elimination semi final, scoring seven tries to five after the scores were level 22-all at half time. Valleys Juniors beat Banyo 28-22 in the major semi final, scoring five tries to four after leading 16-10 at half time. In the Preliminary Final next Saturday at Davies Park, Banyo will play Mitchelton at 3.00 PM, while Valleys Juniors will go through to the Grand Final the following week.

Carina beat Wynnum Manly Juniors 42-10 in the elimination semi final in Southside 1, scoring eight tries to two. In the major semi final, Logan Brothers beat Easts Juniors 33-32 in extra time although Easts scored six tries to five. In the Preliminary Final next week at Davies Park, Easts Juniors will play Carina at 1.15 PM, with Logan Brothers going through to the Grand Final the following week.

There were two Elimination Finals in the Arthur Sparks Shield, with Norths St Josephs beating Sunnybank 28-26, despite trailing 10-20 at half time and Souths Juniors beating Valleys Juniors 32-22 after trailing 14-16 at half time. In the two Preliminary Finals next week at Carina, Logan Brothers will play Souths Juniors at 1.15 PM and Albany Creek will play Norths St Josephs at 3.00 PM.

Brisbane Second Division Rugby League Wrap-up for 16 August 2008

Preliminary Finals were played in front of a crowd of 1100 at Davies Park in Southside 3, Southside 4 and the Albert Bishop Shield.

In Southside 3 Logan Wanderers beat St Brendans 30-22, scoring five tries to four after trailing 10-4 at half time. Cannon Hill will play Logan Wanderers in the Grand Final next week at Davies Park at 1.15 PM.

Bulimba Valleys scored eight tries to three to beat Browns Plains 38-14 in Southside 4 after leading 16-4 at half time. Mustangs Brothers will play Bulimba Valleys in the Grand Final next Saturday at Davies Park at 11.30 AM.

In a thrilling match in the Albert Bishop Shield Capalaba beat Arana Hills 24-23 in a match in which both teams scored four tries and the scores were level 12-all at half time. Easts Juniors will play Capalaba in the Grand Final at Davies Park at 3.00 PM.

Valleys Juniors took out the minor premiership in Northside 1 on 37 points after beating Nundah Devils 34-14. Banyo beat Pine Rivers 26-6 to finish in second place on 34 points, while Deception Bay beat Sandgate Brighton 38-20 to finish in third place on 33 points and Mitchelton had the bye to finish in fourth place on 30 points. In the other matches Dayboro beat Normanby 28-0 and Samford beat Aspley on a forfeit. In next Saturday’s semi finals at Arana Hills, Deception Bay will play Mitchelton in the elimination semi final at 1.15 PM and Valleys Juniors will play Banyo in the major semi final at 3.00 PM.

In Southside 1, Easts Juniors beat Redlands 34-16 to take out the minor premiership on 31 points, while Logan Brothers beat Carina 24-20 to finish in second place on 27 points. Wynnum Juniors beat Sunnybank 32-12 to finish in third place on 25 points and Carina finished in fourth place on 17 points. In next Saturday’s semi finals at St Brendans, Wynnum Juniors will play Carina at 1.15 PM in the elimination semi final and Easts Juniors will play Logan Brothers in the major semi final at 3.00 PM.

In the Arthur Sparks Shield, Albany Creek finished as minor premiers on 38 points after beating Mitchelton 68-14. Logan Brothers also finished on 38 points after beating Greenbank on a forfeit. Albany Creek and Logan Brothers both do not play next week in the six team finals series. Souths Juniors had the bye to finish in third place on 36 points. Sunnybank beat Graceville 34-20 to finish in fourth place on 24 points. St Josephs finished fifth, also on 24 points, after beating Valleys 30-26. Valleys finished in sixth place on 22 points, while Arana Hills and Waterford also finished on 22 points in seventh and eighth places respectively, after Arana Hills beat Carina 30-12 and Waterford beat Samford on a forfeit. In next Saturday’s elimination finals at Carina Sunnybank will play St Josephs at 1.15 PM and Souths Juniors will play Valleys Juniors at 3.00 PM.

Grand Finals were played in Northside 2 and Southside 3 and semi finals were played in Southside 3, Southside 4 and the Albert Bishop Shield, with a crowd of just under 2,500 at the Grand Finals at Davies Park.

In the Northside 2 Grand Final it was 10-all at half time before Arana Hills scored five tries to three to defeat Deception Bay Juniors 22-26.

In the Southside 2 Grand Final Mt Gravatt scored six tries to four to defeat Wests Inala 28-20 after leading 20-6 at half time.

Cannon Hill scored six tries to five in the Southside 3 major semi final in Southside 3 to defeat Logan Wanderers 34-28 after the score was 18-all at half time. St Brendans scored five tries to four in defeating North Stradbroke Island 30-18 in the elimination semi final, after trailing 0-12 at half time. Next week Logan Wanderers will play St Brendans in the Preliminary Final at Davies Park at 1.15 PM, with Cannon Hill going straight through to the Grand Final.

Mustangs Brothers scored seven tries to four in defeating Browns Plains 36-22 in the Southside 4 major semi final after leading 18-6 at half time. Bulimba Valleys scored six tries to three in defeating Sunnybank 32-14 in the elimination semi final after leading 18-10 at half time. Next week Browns Plains will play Bulimba Valleys in the Preliminary Final at Davies Park at 11.30 AM while Mustangs Brothers have gone straight through to the Grand Final.

In the Albert Bishop Shield Easts Juniors scored five tries to four to defeat Capalaba 24-20 in the major semi final after trailing 8-10 at half time. Arana Hills and Aspley scored four tries each in the elimination semi final which Arana won 22-20, after the scores were level at 6-all at half time. Next week Capalaba will play Arana Hills in the Preliminary Final at Davies Park at 3.00 PM with Easts Juniors going through to the Grand Final.

Valleys Juniors continue in the lead in Northside 1, on 35 points, after beating Normanby 44-16. Banyo beat Dayboro 44-6 to be in second place on 32 points, while Deception Bay beat Nundah 38-18 to be on 31 points and Mitchelton beat Samford 68-0 to be in fourth place on 28 points. Sandgate Brighton received a forfeit from Aspley to be on 23 points and Pine Rivers had the bye to be on 22 points.

In Southside 1 Easts Juniors continue in the lead on 29 points despite being beaten 28-18 by Carina. Logan Brothers moved into outright second place, on 25 points, after beating Wynnum Juniors 26-14, with Wynnum in third place on 23 points and Carina in fourth place on 17 points. In the other match, Redlands beat Sunnybank 10-8.

Albany Creek and Logan Brothers share the competition lead in the Arthur Sparks Shield, on 36 points, after Albany Creek beat Sunnybank 18-16 and Logan Brothers beat Norths St Josephs 30-22. Souths Juniors dropped to third place, on 34 points, after losing 24-20 to Mitchelton. Valleys Juniors, Sunnybank and St Josephs all share 22 points after Valleys beat Arana Hills 24-22. A crowd of around 900 watched the Northside 2 and Southside 2 Preliminary Finals at Davies Park.

In Northside 2 Deception Bay scored five tries to four to beat Northside Natives 26-24 after trailing 10-12 at half time. Arana Hills will play Deception Bay Juniors in the Grand Final at Davies Park next Saturday at 3.00 PM.

In Southside 2 Wests Inala and Logan Brothers were locked together 18-all at half time, before Inala went on to win 42-36, scoring seven tries to six. Mt Gravatt will play Wests Inala in the Grand Final next Saturday at Davies Park at 1.15 PM.

In Northside 1 Valleys Juniors beat Banyo 36-28 to retain the competition lead on 33 points with Banyo staying on 30 points. Deception Bay beat Normanby 66-12 to stay in third place on 29 points, while Mitchelton received a forfeit from Sandgate Brighton to be in fourth place on 26 points. In the other matches, Pine Rivers beat Dayboro 40-18 and Nundah received a forfeit from Aspley, while Samford had the bye.

Easts Juniors beat Logan Brothers 28-20 in Southside 1 to stay in the competition lead on 29 points. Redlands beat Wynnum Juniors 32-18 and Sunnybank drew with Carina 20-all, leaving Wynnum and Logan both on 23 points, Carina on 15, Redlands on 11 and Sunnybank on 7 points.

Cannon Hill and Logan Wanderers had already played in the Ted Beaumont Trophy in Southside 3, leaving Cannon Hill as minor premiers on 39 points and Logan Wanderers on 33 points. St Brendans beat Edens Landing on a forfeit to finish on 25 points, with North Stradbroke Island beating Beenleigh 32-30 to finish in fourth place on 24 points. Sunnybank finished on 20 points after beating Wynnum 46-18. In next week’s semi finals at Pinklands, St Brendans will play North Stradbroke Island in the elimination semi at 1.15 PM while Cannon Hill will play Logan Wanderers in the major semi at 3.00 PM.

In next week’s semi finals at Brandon Park, Sunnybank will play Bulimba Valleys in the elimination semi at 1.15 PM while Browns Plains will play Mustangs Brothers in the major semi at 3.00 PM.

Easts Juniors finished as minor premiers, on 32 points, in the Albert Bishop Shield after beating Logan Brothers 38-22. Capalaba received a forfeit from St Josephs to finish in second place on 26 points. Aspley received a forfeit from Browns Plains to finish on 23 points, with Arana Hills beating Wynnum Juniors 36-10 to finish on 22 points, with Wynnum on 20 points. In next week’s semi finals at Bray Park (Pine Central Holy Spirit) Aspley will play Arana Hills in the elimination semi at 1.15 PM and Easts Juniors will play Capalaba in the major semi at 3.00 PM.

BRISBANE SECOND DIVISION RUGBY LEAGUE WRAP-UP FOR 26 JULY 2008

The first semi finals for the year were played - in the Northside 2 and Southside 2 competitions.

In the major semi final in Northside 2, Arana Hills defeated Deception Bay Juniors 20-18, after leading 10-0 at half time, in a match in which both teams scored four tries. In the elimination semi final Northside Natives scored seven tries to three in beating Valleys Juniors 38-18, after leading 20-6 at half time. Arana Hills now go straight through to the Grand Final, while Deception Bay Juniors will play Northside Natives in the Preliminary Final next week at Davies Park at 3.00 PM.

In Southside 2, Mt Gravatt scored five tries to four in defeating Wests Inala 26-22 in the major semi final after leading 16-12 at half time. In the elimination semi final Logan Brothers scored five tries to four to hang on and defeat Beenleigh Juniors 26-20 after leading 26-6 at half time. Mt Gravatt will go straight through to the Grand Final, while Wests Inala will play Logan Brothers in the Preliminary Final next Saturday at Davies Park at 1.15 PM.

There were only two matches played in Northside 1, after Aspley forfeited to Normanby, Samford forfeited to Sandgate Brighton and Bishop Park was closed, meaning that Nundah Devils and Mitchelton could not play. Valleys Juniors beat Pine Rivers 32-16 to retain the competition lead on 31 points, while Banyo beat Deception Bay 20-14 to move to 30 points with Deception Bay on 27 points. Mitchelton is now on 24 points, Sandgate Brighton on 21 and Pine Rivers and Dayboro both on 18 points.

In Southside 1 Easts Juniors retain the competition lead, on 27 points, despite being beaten 36-16 by Wynnum Juniors who now share second place, on 23 points, with Logan Brothers, who beat Sunnybank 34-20. In the other match, Carina beat Redlands 24-10 to be in fourth place, on 14 points, with Redlands on 9 points and Sunnybank on 6 points.

Cannon Hill beat Sunnybank 60-10 in Southside 3 to retain the competition lead on 39 points. Logan Wanderers beat St Brendans 42-18 to stay in second place on 33 points. St Brendans are now on 23 points, with North Stradbroke, who received a forfeit from Edens Landing, on 22 points. Sunnybank is on 18 points.

In Southside 4, Browns Plains and Mustangs had already played their match as the Ted Beaumont Trophy, so stay on 34 and 31 points respectively. St Brendans beat Sunnybank 42-26 for Sunnybank to stay on 24 points and St Brendans to move to 18 points. Bulimba Valleys beat Waterford 44-10 to also move to 18 points. In the other match, Beenleigh Juniors beat Slacks Creek 54-4.

Easts Juniors and Capalaba had already played their Albert Bishop Shield match as the Ted Beaumont Trophy, so stay on 30 and 24 points respectively. Aspley beat St Josephs 50-18 to move to 21 points. Arana Hills and Wynnum Juniors now share 20 points after Arana beat Browns Plains 34-12 and Wynnum forfeited to Logan Brothers, who are now on 17 points.

In the Arthur Sparks Shield, Albany Creek, Logan Brothers and Souths Juniors all share 32 points after Albany Creek received a forfeit from Greenbank, Logan Brothers beat Carina 54-12 and Souths Juniors beat Samford 32-24. Sunnybank beat Mitchelton 44-28 to move to 22 points. Arana Hills and St Josephs share 20 points after Arana beat Waterford 38-14 and St Josephs beat Graceville 46-16. Valleys Juniors and Deception Bay Bombers did not play in Northside 1, as they had already played their match as the Ted Beaumont Trophy. Valleys continue in the competition lead on 25 points, while Banyo move into second place on 24 points, after beating Sanford 30-6 and Deception Bay is on 23 points. Mitchelton beat Pine Rivers 20-12 to be on 21 points and Sandgate Brighton beat Normanby 38-16 to be 17. Pine Rivers and Dayboro share 16 points after Dayboro beat Aspley 22-7. Nundah Devils had the bye.

Easts Juniors continue in the lead in Southside 1, on 23 points, after beating Carina 22-12. Wynnum beat Logan Brothers 24-16 to be in second place on 20 points, with Logan on 19. Redlands beat Sunnybank 16-6 to be in fourth place on 9 points, with Carina on 8 and Sunnybank on 5 points.

Deception Bay and Valleys did not play this weekend in Northside 2, having already played their match as the Ted Beaumont Trophy. Deception Bay continues in the lead on 27 points. Arana Hills beat Aspley 52-12 to be in second place on 26 points, while Valleys and Natives share 22 points, after Natives beat Burpengary 36-12. Mitchelton drew with Pine Central 10-all, leaving Pine Central on 19 and Mitchelton on 13 points. Kallangur received a forfeit from Banyo.

In Southside 2, Inala beat St Josephs on a forfeit to stay in the competition lead on 26 points. St Brendans were beaten 28-6 by Beenleigh, but stay in second place on 22 points. Mt Gravatt, Beenleigh and Logan Brothers all share 21 points after Logan beat My Gravatt 20-14. Slacks Creek had the bye to be on 16 points, while in the other match, Redlands beat Carina 22-8.

Cannon Hill Stars continue undefeated in Southside 3, on 33 points, after beating Wynnum Juniors 44-12. Mitchelton are now in fourth place on 17 points, while Sandgate Brighton beat Pine Rivers 18-16 to be on 15 points. Pine Rivers now shares 14 points with Dayboro, who beat Samford 40-12. Ted Beaumont Trophy matches were played today at Davies Park in the Northside 1, Southside 1 and Arthur Sparks Shield grades in front of a crowd of around 800 spectators.

In Northside 1, Valleys Juniors scored seven tries to four to beat Deception Bay Bombers 36-22 after trailing 8-16 at half time. The win moves Valleys to 23 points, with Deception Bay staying in second place on 19 points.

In Southside 1, Easts Juniors scored six tries to four to beat Wynnum Manly Juniors 32-18 after the scores were level 10-all at half time. Easts move to 21 points on the ladder while Wynnum stay in second place on 16 points.

In the Arthur Sparks Shield, Souths Juniors, despite being underdogs, scored five tries to four to beat Albany Creek 28-18. Souths led 18-4 at half time. The match was not a fixture match, so there was no change to the ladder.

Deception Bay Juniors retain the competition lead in Northside 2, on 23 points, despite drawing 28-all with Pine Central. Valleys Juniors were beaten 32-28 by Mitchelton and now share second place, on 20 points, with Arana Hills, who beat Burpengary 58-6. Pine Central shares fourth place, on 16 points, with Northside Natives, who beat Kallangur Bulls on a forfeit. In the other match, Aspley beat Banyo 40-20.

Wests Inala and St Brendans did not play in Southside 2 and remain on 22 and 18 points respectively. Beenleigh Juniors beat Mt Gravatt 42-20 for the two teams to share 17 points. Logan Brothers beat Centenary St Josephs 34-26 for Logan Brothers to move to 15 points, with St Josephs staying on 14 points. In the other match, Carina beat Slacks Creek 36-18 and Redlands had the bye.

Cannon Hill beat Logan Wanderers 44-10 in Southside 3, for Cannon Hill to move to 27 points, with Logan Wanderers staying on 21 points. North Stradbroke Island beat Beenleigh Juniors 40-24 to move into third place on 16 points. St Brendans are on 15 points, after drawing 34-all with Edens Landing, while Sunnybank beat Wynnum Juniors 54-10 to move to 14 points.

In Southside 4, Browns Plains beat St Brendans 40-12 to stay in the competition lead on 26 points, while Mustangs beat Slacks Creek 68-10 to be in second place, on 24 points. Despite the rain of the last couple of days, only 4 of our scheduled 35 fixtures were cancelled.

Valleys Juniors beat Sandgate Brighton 56-10 in Northside 1, to retain the competition lead on 19 points. Deception Bay received a forfeit from Samford to be on 17 points, while Banyo had the bye to be on 16 and Mitchelton beat Aspley 52-6 to be on 15 points. Pine Rivers and Dayboro share 12 points after Pine Rivers beat Normanby 42-22 and Dayboro beat Nundah 36-4. Sandgate Brighton is on 11 points.

In Southside 1, Easts Juniors suffered their first defeat of the season, going down 34-12 to Redlands, but they remain in the competition lead on 17 points. Wynnum Juniors and Logan Brothers share 14 points after Wynnum drew 4-all with Sunnybank and Logan Brothers beat Carina 24-16. Wynnum have a better differential than Logan and have qualified for the Ted Beaumont Trophy against Easts on 14 June at Davies Park.

With representative matches scheduled in Opens, Under 22s and Under 20s, there were only four grades of fixtures played this weekend – Northside 2, Southside 2, Southside 3 and Southside 4.

In the Toyota Centenary Cup match at Runaway Bay, it was an even first half with Gold Coast just leading Brisbane Second Division 16-10 at half time. It was all Gold Coast in the second half, with the Coast going on to win 48-10, scoring nine tries to two overall.

Deception Bay Juniors remain undefeated on 20 points in Northside 2, after beating Mitchelton 35-24. Valleys Juniors were beaten 36-34 by Pine Central Holy Spirit, but remain in second place on 16 points. Arana Hills beat Kallangur Bulls 36-12 to share 14 points with Pine Central Holy Spirit.
